Waikato residents flock to see international exhibition

With two days to go, more than 2500 Waikato residents have viewed the internationally renowned World Press Photo Exhibition – an inspiring collection of award winning images from photojournalists around the world.

The Wintec-hosted exhibition is a result of an annual competition in which the winning images were selected from over 100,000 entries.

This is the first time the exhibition has come to the Waikato.

Wintec Chief Executive, Mark Flowers said: “It’s been a bit of a coup bringing the exhibition to the Waikato and we’re delighted to host it.

“We’ve been pleased to see such strong community interest and support, especially given it’s the first year the exhibition has come to Hamilton. Many of our staff and students have gone through the exhibition as well as a number of secondary school students and their teachers.

“It would be wonderful to have it return and become an annual event that people in the Waikato could look forward to each year.

New Zealand Project Director, John Dow said: “We’re pleased we could include Hamilton in our tour this year and delighted to see so many people from the area making the most of the opportunity to experience these iconic images.

“The exhibition is a forum for discussion, a stimulant for creativity and a catalyst in spreading skills and knowledge. Engaging as many people as possible in the issues that exhibition raises is an important part of our work and we are happy that Hamilton could be part of this.

The public will have until 5pm this Saturday to view the exhibition before it heads to Napier.

The exhibition is held in The Atrium, Wintec House, corner of Ward and Anglesea Streets, Hamilton, and is open to the public from 10am-5pm daily until 29 September. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 13. It is recommended that children be accompanied by an adult as the exhibition includes explicit images.
