Kids World Championship Event set for Sunday, 14 October
In a month’s time, kids will have the opportunity to be part of a World Championship event when St Heliers’ Vellenoweth Green hosts the World Champs Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon on Sunday, 14 October.
The event forms part of the Barfoot & Thompson World Championship Series Grand Final which takes place on Auckland’s waterfront from the 14-22 October. The first event of the World Championship week will be the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. The event will have the features of the iconic Weet-Bix event’s such as all participants receiving medals, but has the added feature of being part of the Triathlon World Championship.
Netball star Temepara George has confirmed that she will part of the event on the 14th of October. George won a World Netball Championship Gold and two Commonwealth Gold Medals in her glittering netball career, and will be one of the sporting celebrities at the World Champs Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon handing out medals to all participants who cross the line.
The World Champs Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon, is open to kids from the ages of seven to fifteen no matter what their level of fitness, with the emphasis of the Weet-Bix TRYathlon’s being on completion rather than competition, and enjoying the experience as part of an active lifestyle.
The event is drawing good entries from kids throughout the Auckland region, and some from further afield. The Friendly Islands Triathlon Association who promote fitness in the Kingdom of Tonga is sending one of their young participants – Fina Lino Ohuafi to Auckland for the World Champs Weet-Bix event.
General Manager of Sanitarium Pierre van Heerden is delighted to be staging the event on Sunday, 14 October – “it is wonderful that the World Champs Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon will start the World Championship week in Auckland and that kids get the chance to be part of it. The Weet-Bix TRYathlon events have always been about encouraging kiwi kids to get active and have a go. The series has also been the catalyst for many current NZ athletes who will be competing at the World Champs to go on and fulfil their dreams.”
