Hawaii International Film Festival first to show Fresh Meat

18th September 2012

Hawaii International Film Festival first to serve up Fresh Meat

Kiwi horror comedy Fresh Meat will have its world premiere at the 32nd Hawaii International Film Festival on October 15th. The film will release theatrically in New Zealand on October 25th.

Penned by Briar Grace-Smith (Fish Skin Suit, The Strength of Water) Fresh Meat is a tasty comedy starring Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, River Queen, Vertical Limit, Once Were Warriors) as the head of a family of modern-day, middle-class cannibals unwittingly taken hostage by the Tan brothers’ gang after a botched prison break. Academic Hemi Crane (Morrison) and his wife Margaret (Nicola Kawana), along with their teenage children Glenn and Rina don’t seem to pose much of a threat to Ritchie and Paulie Tan, their fumbling accomplice Johnny and the smoking hot Gigi (Kate Elliott). Or do they?

Director Danny Mulheron has worked in a variety of roles and mediums over the years, including a stint with Peter Jackson in LA working on the sixth and final instalment of A Nightmare on Elm Street (Dream Lover) and co-writing Meet The Feebles (in which Mulheron also starred, as the prima donna hippo Heidi). This is his debut feature film.

Fresh Meat was produced by leading New Zealand producer, Dave Gibson (The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, Panic at Rock Island, Aftershock, Eruption) and financed by the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC). It will be released theatrically in New Zealand by Metropolis Films and the Gibson Group. NZ Film, the sales arm of the NZFC, is handling world sales for the film.
