Marlborough Wine & Food Festival 2013 Entertainment Line-Up

September 17, 2012

The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival 2013 Entertainment Line-Up Announced!

• Leading NZ musicians to perform amongst the vines at the festival
• Music to complement the new festival format

The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival is announcing the lead entertainment line-up for 2013. The organisers have been working on the line-up for the past 6 months and are thrilled to finally announce the two leading acts for the event that will be held on 9th February. Both these acts are hugely popular within the New Zealand music scene and will add to the exceptional experience the festival will deliver.

Tim Crawford, Chairman of the Marlborough Wine & Food Festival committee says the organisers were looking for musical talent that would go hand-in-hand with the new features being introduced in 2013 and to also create a convivial atmosphere that the event is aiming for.

“We wanted to introduce a musical line-up which is acclaimed yet complements the main elements of the event - the wine and food. I think we’ve achieved that with these two outstanding groups”.

For the first time, Avalanche City will be performing at the Marlborough Wine & Food Festival. The group is the brainchild of Dave Baxter, a musician whose background stretches across many genres and influences, culminating in a sound that is an impressive and eclectic range of various instruments, melodies and harmonies. The depth and perspective create a dynamic atmosphere that is rich and raw all at once. The epicentre of Avalanche City is Baxter himself, who writes, conceives, produces, records and plays every instrument on his debut album.

The second act to feature at the festival next year is The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, a group which is taken the ukulele industry by storm, receiving brilliant reviews for their performances all over New Zealand.

Pulling together some of Wellington's favourite musicians and commanding the four-string like you've never heard it before, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra's merry strummers have become a sell-out outfit. Their live show features sing-a-long favourites, blazing solos, stunning dress sense, sparkling harmonies and comic banter. They faithfully reproduce hit songs from across the musical spectrum including The White Stripes, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, The Muttonbirds, Split Enz, Pixie Williams, DD Smash and more.

Mr. Crawford says, “We have had the group on our radar for a number of years and we finally secured them to perform in February. They are simply going to love the event and the audience will get involved and no doubt sing along to many of the songs”.

The Marlborough Wine and Food festival has recently released the early bird ticket offer which runs from 17th September until 30th October. Tickets are available from www.ticketek.co.nz with all early bird ticket purchasers going into the draw to win a fantastic festival prize package worth over $2000 that includes Helicopter flights to the festival and VIP tickets for the winner.

The Marlborough Wine and Food Festival is New Zealand’s first ever and longest running festival and is held at the original home of Sauvignon Blanc, Brancott Estate, on February 9, 2013.

Other artists to support the lead acts will be announced in due course.
