Prepare to press play as a WORLD OF GAMES arrives in Wellington!
On Monday 1 October Capital E will open its doors to games, games and more games for the October school holidays. From building mechanical marvels with Meccano to pitting guitar skills against the computer, the traditional and electronic worlds of gaming are brought together in this two week extravaganza for families.
Venture into an emporium of games where each turn brings a new entertaining challenge. Roll the inflatable dice and jump on to the giant Snakes and Ladders, choose a red or yellow disk with a game of Connect 4, or test cup- stacking skills in a race against the clock with Speed Stacks. Then it’s contenders at the ready to play against friends and family with XBox, Wii and Playstation games on the big screens. Compete for honours with Kinect Sports in the morning then dance-off at Dance Central in the afternoon. Families can also enjoy older classics on the Atari, Sega Mega Drive and arcade machines with Sonic the Hedgehog, Pacman, Frogger, Space Invaders and many more. Or stop by the racing circuit to get the heart and the remote control cars racing as opponents go head to head on the custom built track.
Then it’s time to get into Meccano model-making kids and grandparents alike will love! There’ll be models on display to inspire, and everyone can have a go at making their own. The finished creations will take on a new twist as children don a green suit and film their model come to life against a green screen location of their choice. Make a rocket and see it land on the moon, or set a model animal free in the Amazon… each 30 second clip will be uploaded online to watch again and again. With so much happening for all ages, families are sure to leave the World of Games inspired and exhausted!
Children eight and over can also choose from two Capital E Creative Technology workshops these holidays. Watch out for some sinister characters lurking around the OnTV Studio, there's rumour of a Zombie Attack and children can be first on the scene to film, report and document the event. Over in SoundHouse NZ™ they can learn how to make 3D games in Game On! Plus Capital E is on the hunt for some Creative Brains, children can take part in a fun free workshop and their ideas could become reality in the April school holidays next year!
Mon 1 – Sat 13 October
