After a stellar performance at the London 2012 Paralympics, the New Zealand team arrived into Auckland Airport this morning and were presented with an unusual reward for their efforts, a PAK’nSAVE Marmite Rescue pack, containing that much-loved but very hard to locate Kiwi spread, Marmite.
In the wake of ‘Marmageddon’, PAK’nSAVE, one of New Zealand’s largest supermarket brands, located a small amount of Marmite in their warehouse. Rather than sell the precious commodity, the supermarket decided to look for ways to reward deserving Kiwis and Marmite fans including Olympic medal winners, families in quake-affected Christchurch and even The Chiefs rugby team after their Super XV win.
Steve Anderson Managing Director, Foodstuffs New Zealand says, “We decided to reward the whole Paralympic team after it was announced that New Zealand had topped the per capita medal tally, it’s a fantastic achievement and everyone involved deserves a PAK’nSAVE Rescue for their hard work.”
Marmite began disappearing off shelves in March due to quake-damage at the Christchurch factory. Recent reports from Sanitarium suggest that production is likely to begin later this year so it looks like there will still be a bit of a wait before the famous yeasty spread is back on supermarket shelves.
Marmite lovers can follow the PAK’nSAVE Marmite Rescue team on twitter.com/PAKnSAVErescue, and put a case forward as to why they deserve rescuing.
