Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge Qualifier on in Taupo this weekend
Twenty-one secondary school teams (eight students per team) will be out and about in Taupo this weekend as they take part in the qualifiying event for one of New Zealand’s most exciting adventure weekends, The Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge.
The ultimate interschools event for senior students, the Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge is a five-day adventure competition that takes place in the heart of the North Island’s mountains, rivers, lakes and bush.
Next year will mark the 13th running of the annual event, which now has the reputation as the toughest sporting or outdoor competition that secondary school students can take part in. The national final will run between 13-17 May, 2013 at OPC Tongariro.
To make it into the final, teams taking part in this weekend’s qualifier must first gain a top placing in the six-hour event. A second qualifier event will take place in Christchurch in October.
From each of the two events between 1 and 5 teams (based on numbers entered) will advance through to the national final.
