Just six months after winning the Make My Movie competition, three Wellington filmmakers found themselves accepted into the 2012 New Zealand International Film
Festival with their ‘peeping tom rom-com’ How to Meet Girls from a Distance, a comedy about one stalker’s search for true love.
The film went on to become a runaway hit at the NZIFF and has sold Aus/NZ rights to Madman Entertainment. “To be
accepted into the film festival and now to get a general release is testament to how hard they all worked to squeeze
every cent out of the budget and get it on the screen.” – Make My Movie competition creator Ant Timpson.
Script to Screen presents a Writer’s Room with co-writer/director Dean Hewison, actor/co-writer Richard Falkner and
producer Ruth Korver. Join them as they talk about about their experience having only six months and NZ$100k to write,
produce and edit their first feature film.

Don't Forget to apply for the 2012 Short Film Lab. Applications Close Thursday 20th September at 5pm.
Six writers (or writer/directors) will be selected to workshop their short film ideas during the full-day lab hosted by
the University of Auckland’s Department of Film, Television and Media Studies on Saturday 3rd November.
Successful applicants will be offered a place in a one-day workshop and an individual follow-up session.
Participants in the 2012 Short Film Lab will be mentored by experienced industry practitioners who have excelled in
short filmmaking, including Zia Mandviwalla (Night Shift, Clean Linen, Eating Sausage), Tui Ruwhiu (Executive Producer at Tauihu Shorts) and Shuchi Kothari (Firaaq, Apron Strings, Coffee and Allah). A fourth mentor will be announced soon.
