First New Zealand Project Selected for Prestigious Japanese Film Market
The New Zealand Film Commission congratulates Missu Peace on being this country’s first feature film project selected for the Tokyo International Film Festival’s project market.
Missu Peace is an exciting project likely to take the form of a New Zealand – Japan co-production and the selection comes as the
two countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
It reflects the NZFC’s commitment to talent and project partnership through international co-production.
This particular opportunity allows the team to pitch to the market with the hope of securing creative talent and
financial partners.
It is written by Mike Riddell and produced by Maile Daugherty, Peter McCully and Migiwa Ozawa. A director and cast are
yet to be attached.
“Missu Peace is a story from our shared past that not only explores the bonds between Japanese and New Zealanders during the Second
World War, but also the bonds that are important today,” says Maile Daugherty.
The NZFC has invested in the script development of this project, and is supporting Maile Daugherty and Migiwa Ozawa to
travel to Tokyo.
“Missu Peace is an exciting project from a great team,” says NZFC Chief Executive Graeme Mason. “It builds on a history of Japanese
and New Zealand screen collaboration, which counts The Last Samurai, Emperor, Dororo and The Climber’s High among its credits. I congratulate this team on their selection.”
The NZFC Development team says Missu Peace has the potential to be a profoundly moving and engaging drama for a global audience.
