Ready for Some ‘Hits & Giggles’ with Opshop?
They are certainly not short of hits, but OPSHOP has never been renowned for their on stage gags. So, they’re teaming up with of one of our best loved comedians, Brendhan Lovegrove, to provide the laughs for the nationwide ‘Hits & Giggles’ tour.
This unique entertainment extravaganza, will unleash on towns big and small during September and October. It’s been over two years since OPSHOP last headlined their own tour, and there’ll be no room for forgotten lyrics or rusty performances as they prepare to play up close and personal, in venues that hold no more than about 300 people.
"Its about time we hit the road again. Hung out with friends and fans in some old haunts and had a few brews and a few laughs,” says front man Jason Kerrison.
As well as perfecting their comic timing, OPSHOP will play the songs that have made them one of New Zealand’s biggest selling and most popular bands. Over the past decade, Auckland based four-piece OPSHOP has had a constant stream of massive radio hits and a platinum selling catalogue of albums, You Are Here, Second Hand Planet and Until the End of Time. They’ve won more awards than they can fit in their booze cabinet, and their songs and albums have broken sales and chart records.
Over the last couple of years OPSHOP has performed at some of New Zealand’s biggest festivals, hit the road with major international artists, toured wineries from North to South and played to thousands of vocal, and discerning rugby fans. But this is the first time they have been brave enough to take to the stage alongside a stand up comic. “We are not very funny. In fact, the last time we tried to be funny on tour we paid dearly for it. We tried to have a laugh with a band, by covering their van in glad wrap, shaving cream, and pilchards while they were on stage playing. Ha ha ha? Alas no, the next morning a cute police woman knocked on our door at 7am holding a bag of nuts to the four wheels from our tour van, which were piled up by the door with no van attached. We were wanted for questioning. So, yeah, lets tag in Brendhan,“ says Kerrison.
Right now, they’re preparing to go back into the studio to record a fourth album. That is, if Kerrison doesn’t get too famous for the band after his television debut judging ‘New Zealand’s Got Talent.’
Tickets for “Hits & Giggles’ are very limited, so make sure you don’t miss out on what will be one of the funniest, musical gigs of the year!
