Eukanuba National Dog show
The appointment of Peter Dunne of Invercargill on September 10 as the new Director Secretary of the New Zealand Kennel
Club brings him into the organisation in time for the Eukanuba National Dog Show the New Zealand canine world's premier
show of the year.
Coming from a background of sports administration that includes both Badminton and Rugby Union as well as Manager of
Sports Southland, Mr Dunne has great experience in sporting administration and promotion.
The Eukanuba National Dog show is held at Porirua this year, in the NZKC Kennel Centre from October 3 to 6 . National
show director Pat Dance says when entries closed there were 1500 exhibits registered representing the cream of the
pedigree dog world in New Zealand.
One of the highlights of the National Dog Show is always the final of the National Junior Handler competition which will be at lunchtime on Friday October 5. .Competitors are eligible to compete between the ages of 12 and 17
years
Heats for finalists have been run at ten major shows across the country throughout the year and this year the winners
are: Danielle Abey from Invercargill; Omri Reading from Dunedin; Deanna Diamanti from Blenheim; Abbe Gulbransen from
Palmerston North; Lindsay Davies from Tauranga; and four from the Auckland area Jaana Downie from Pukekohe; Erika Watson
and Kate Watson both from Albany ; and Renae Watson from Drury. These finalists will vye for the opportunity of
representing New Zealand at Cruft's Dog Show in England The prize is a return trip for two and accommodation to attend
the Junior Dog Handler of The Year at Crufts 2013.
Eukanuba Canine Heroes 2012 will appear on Day One, October 3, for a special presentation . Nominations have been made throughout the year, for
dogs who have gone beyond the call of duty in Lifesaving, Service and Pet categories. Mrs Dance says, “nominations are
always welcomed and it is a moving moment to see these dogs – which are not necessarily pure-bred, receive commendation
for outstanding action or contribution to the lives or work of people associated with them.”
