Tchoukball Played In Largest Multi-Indoor Sports Event
Sports people keen to try tchoukball – described as the ‘fastest handball sport around’ – can try it at Wellington’s largest multi-indoor sports event, Ignition.
The event, run by Ignite Sport, is being held at the ASB Sports Centre, Kilbirnie, on 16 September, from 1pm. Thirty teams will play seven different sports in five hours of continuous non-stop indoor sports action.
Ignite Sport Director Kevin Goldsbury says sports mad young and not so young will have the chance to join with other community sporting groups for an afternoon of ‘action-packed, adrenalin pumping indoor sports action’.
Other indoor sports include indoor football, netball, volleyball, table tennis, bowls and cage soccer. Kevin says tchoukball is a non-contact sport which combines the pace and excitement of handball and volleyball. Tchoukball is a relatively new sport introduced overseas in 1970. An adapted Kiwi version will be played at Ignition.
The sports event is limited to 30 teams – of minimum eight players – at a cost of $220 (open division) and $180 (youth). Already 20 teams are lining up to take to the courts so Kevin says other teams need to register quickly to be included.
“Ignition is the perfect sports event for sports and business social clubs, church and community groups, colleges and youth programmes, even corporate team-building,” says Kevin.
