TUESDAY 4th SEPTEMBER, 2012
Final Showdown in the Wild West: Blackheart Bruisers vs. Mascara Massacre
On Saturday 22nd September, the Trusts Stadium Arena in Henderson will host a mighty showdown between two of the toughest roller derby teams in the Pirate City Rollers: Mascara Massacre and the - unbeaten - Blackheart Bruisers.
The 2012 season, The Good, The Bad and The Derby has been full of twists and turns as changes to team line-ups has meant the balance of power has shifted, making the teams more even than ever before. The last game was very close, as Dead Wreckoning fought their hardest, but narrowly lost to the Blackheart Bruisers’ solid walls and effective point scoring. Now the competition is down to two teams who will be vying for victory and bragging rights as 2012 champions, and of course the biggest prize, the Black Dahlia Cup.
Blackheart Bruisers and Mascara Massacre both have extremely athletic and agile jammers, aided by blockers who form solid walls and read the game very well; this bout will come down to strategy, and the teams gelling on the day.
Roller derby is the fastest-growing women’s sport in the world and has been taking New Zealand by storm over the past six years. The Pirate City Rollers are New Zealand's founding league, and continue to go from strength to strength in developing the sport with a crew of dedicated skaters, refs and officials. It is fitting that the Final Showdown is held at the Trusts Stadium Arena, which has been the backdrop to some of the biggest events in New Zealand.
On game day, doors open at 6pm at the bout starts at 7pm sharp so be sure to arrive on time, get a seat close to the rink and enjoy the atmosphere and adrenaline of this all-female action sport.
