Airport Welcome for Rugby Teams
Dunedin (Tuesday 4 September) – Dunedin people are being urged to roll out a warm southern welcome for the arrival of the All Blacks and the Springboks for their test match this month.
The All Blacks’ plane touches down at 3.45pm on Sunday 9 September at the Dunedin International Airport. The DCC is encouraging fans to get dressed up and head out to the airport to support our world champions.
The King’s and Queen’s High Schools’ Kapa Haka group will welcome them on arrival and then the City Of Dunedin Pipe Band will pipe them through the terminal.
The DCC hopes people will also show their southern hospitality when the South African rugby team arrives at the airport on Thursday 13 September at 9.10am.
The John McGlashan College Pipe Band will pipe them through the terminal downstairs where they will be greeted by internationally renowned cellist Heleen du Plessis and Kawiti Waetford (Lexus Song finalist), who will perform the South African national anthem to welcome the team.
The Investec Rugby Championship game on 15 September will be the first time the All Blacks have taken to the turf at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
