Unison Recognises Junior Rugby Excellence
Tuesday 4 September 2012 – With the Hawke’s Bay junior rugby season concluded for another year, Unison this week recognised players and supporters for their excellence both on and off the field during the 2012 season.
On Monday, over 200 players across the Hawke’s Bay region received the Unison Medal at a presentation held at the Napier Old Boys Marist club rooms.
Unison Group Chief Executive Officer Ken Sutherland said recipients were nominated by their coaches for having consistently shown great work ethic, discipline and sportsmanship.
“This is the fourth consecutive year the Unison Medal has been presented, and we are delighted to see the pride and delight on the faces of the players as they receive their medal. We are proud to be able to recognise the achievements of these future rugby stars.”
The popular Unison Medal was presented by Powerman and members from the Hawke’s Bay Magpies team.
Unison this week also announced the winner of the Greatest Supporter Award.
Throughout the season, Unison and The Edge radio station have been visiting the side-lines of junior rugby games around Hawke’s Bay. While handing out free hot drinks and muffins, they gathered nominations for the volunteers and family members who have shown great support for their team, rain or shine.
“The Greatest Supporter Award recognises that without the dedication of volunteer coaches, referees and family members, the junior rugby programme would not be possible. We have had some great nominations come through, and we’re pleased to be able to show our appreciation through this award,” said Mr Sutherland.
Each week five nominees won a prize pack, with the overall winner, Mark Lawson from Taradale 10th Grade Chiefs, winning a prize pack from Unison which included tickets to a Magpies home game, sporting and restaurant vouchers.
The full list of Greatest Supporter prize pack winners and Unison Medal recipients can be found on the Unison Rugby Zone website www.unison.co.nz/rugbyzone.
