Auckland, September 3, 2012 – Auckland-based fixed gear bike crew Chain Gang Kids has been crowned best crew in the country and will go on to represent New Zealand in the ultimate self-expression of street-inspired style – the adidas All Originals Represent global campaign.
Propelled into the global spotlight following the national showdown event held in Auckland on Friday 31 August, Chain Gang Kids blew the judges away with their video creation showing their crew in action on the streets of Auckland.
The national finalists featured skate, fixie, hip hop and multimedia crews going head to head in an intense competition witnessed by a 500-strong crowd. The search for New Zealand’s best street style crew was open to crews from all over the country from all genres of self-expression.
Kiwi MC and international music artist David Dallas, host for the event, said the Chain Gang Kids stood out with their originality and effortless style.
“These guys made fixed gear riding emotive for me – you could see how unique their crew is and they’re just plain cool.”
“We were astounded by the level of creativity, passion and style shown by all the crews. New Zealand really does have an incredible level of talent and we’re right behind Chain Gang Kids as they launch their talent to the world,” said Nadia Scott, Marketing Manager adidas New Zealand.
Chain Gang Kids also walks away with $5,000 worth of adidas gear, and they will become the face of the adidas Originals New Zealand advertising campaign in 2013. Their performance will go live on the global campaign social platforms, up against other international entries and alongside iconic artists including Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg.
