Generous Support Secures New Asset for Teretonga
Thanks to the generosity of two long standing sponsors, the Southland Sports Car Club has taken delivery of a dedicated course car for Teretonga Park.
Both GWD's and Allied Lubricants/Mobil are long time supporters of the club and their activities. The handover of a VX Holden Commodore will see the Southland Sports Car Club gain the long term use of the car which will feature the same livery as the Holden Racing Team VX Commodore that won the 2001 Australian V8 Supercar Championship.
The Commodore will be used as a course car at the spectacular southern motor racing circuit primarily to act as a circuit clearance vehicle prior to every race start and a first lap incident intervention vehicle.
GWD Russells Group Sales & Marketing Manager Lindsay Moffatt says, "GWD's have been strong supporters of motorsport and the Southland Sports Car Club for decades. We have supplied the course and safety cars for many race meetings during this time and have been working on this project for some time. We're thrilled to be able to supply this course car to the club which has been a bit of a joint effort between ourselves and Allied Lubricants/Mobil. It has also been a team project around GWD's for a few months. Our panel and paint team provided the currently straight panels and a new coat of red, and then our workshop team gave it a good suspension and alignment set up for the track as well as fitting new shocks, brakes, fluids, filters, battery and more. It certainly looks the part and we're sure it will be a great asset to the club for many years to come."
Scott O'Donnell, the Managing Director of the H.W. Richardson Group said, "we are the Mobil importer for New Zealand and hence a direct sponsor of HRT in Australia. GWD's are a key client and this is a great chance to show how the Mobil brand is supportive of both it's clients and Mobil in Motorsport plus the local community. It is also more Mobil lubricants support for the track."
Mobil signage already adorns the impressive new Control Tower at the circuit as well as featuring in other areas of the track to acknowledge their strong support of motorsport in the region.
Southland Sports Car Club President Howard Kingsford-Smith says the club is indebted to GWD's and Allied Lubricants/Mobil for this gesture and to all our sponsors. Gestures of this type show the level of support out there."
The new season at Teretonga Park gets underway over the weekend of 29/30 September with motor racing presented by Downer featuring a round of the South Island Endurance Series, the New Zealand Pro 7 Championship plus the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloons and Sports & Racing Cars.
