The Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington presents Kete
A three day craft and design fair & symposium, bringing together galleries and practitioners, exhibiting objects and in jewellery, ceramics, textiles and furniture.
Kete Aronui: ‘treasures, arts and crafts which benefit the earth and all living things.’
Kete celebrates the objects that fill your home and are part of your daily wear, revealing the current state of craft and design practice in Aotearoa New Zealand, featuring artists and object makers from 14 participating galleries and design schools – floor-talks and discussion from leading designers, curators and writers.
Kete features objects and art works from:
Anna Miles Gallery, Bowen Galleries, David Trubridge, Designtree, Dilana Rugs, F3 Design, Textile Design Massey School of Design, Masterworks Gallery, The National, Toi Maori Aotearoa, Vessel, Whitespace Gallery, Whitireia NZ Visual Arts & Design
Key note guest speakers are:
• Curator and academic Kevin Murray, online editor for the Journal of Modern Craft and former Executive Director at Craft Victoria.
• Internationally renowned designer, artist and lecturer, David Trubridge. In 2008 French magazine Express listed him as one of the top 15 designers in the world.
Kete features:
• The launch of Small Treasures - a new website and work from Toi Maori Aotearoa.
• New rug designs from artist Richard Killeen and Dilana Rugs
• Ceramics by Ann Verdcourt from Masterworks in Auckland
• Ceramics by Richard Stratton from Anna Miles Gallery
• Unique domestic ware and furniture from F3 Design
• New work from emerging textile and fabric artists from the College of Creative Arts, Massey University
• Jewellery and fabrics emerging artist from Whitireia New Zealand
• Kete Arounui – a light work from David Trubridge
• The best in contemporary jewellery from The National
• Objects from Jim Cooper and Lauren Lysaght
• new works by Wellington artist Sam Duckor-Jones and one new work by Warwick Freeman from Bowen Galleries
