New Zealand’s Annual Drum and Bass DJ Competition
NATIONAL FINAL

San Francisco Bath House 171 Cuba St, Wellington
From over 90 DJs, 8 of New Zealand's best Drum and Bass selectors have battled and risen to the top, for their chance to compete for the 2012 National Final of Rumble in the Jungle.
Converging on Wellington's San Francisco Bath House on September the 15th, the stakes are high but the talent is even greater, with the DJ's not holding back on their quest to take the trophy and collect the impressive prize pack.
All around New Zealand there are bedroom DJs who aspire to play sets in the clubs but have yet to be discovered either by the public or promoters, often due to a lack of connections. Rumble in the Jungle is New Zealand’s longest running dance music DJ competition, covering the four major cities in the country, giving every DJ a chance to play in a club, to prove themselves amongst their peers, and get their name out into the public.
To be named Rumble in the Jungle champion, DJs have to progress through various stages of competition.
First, entrants had to submit a mix CD showcasing the best of their talent. These CDs were evaluated by experienced judges who picked the top 10 mixes from each region, with the DJs responsible for those mixes being invited to compete in their closest regional event.
The regional competitions and the final are all held as live contests. DJs go through a series of rounds, with points awarded for their skill in a range of technical and creative areas. The Judges evaluate the DJs through the rounds, with first and second continuing to the final event in Wellington a month later, to do it all again against the best the rest of the country has to offer.
The finalist DJs who have made it through to the 2012 final after 4 epic encounters are – Cynikal (1st Wellington), Mohanz (1st Dunedin), Potty (2nd Christchurch), Psykosis (2nd Dunedin), Sly Chaos (1st Auckland), DJ Static (2nd Auckland), Subvert (1st Christchurch) and Yanik (2nd Wellington).
The final will be hosted by Deluxe MC at the San Francisco Bath House on the 15th of September, with 2007 champion, DJ JMC, filling the guest DJ slot.
The judges for the 2012 final are incredibly experienced, with Doug Brown aka DJ Sal, alongside Belinda ‘B-line’ Trewen and finally Ben ‘Stonya’ Stonyer. Between them, they have over 40 years experience DJing Drum and Bass to clubs around New Zealand and the UK. Stonya also brings promotion experience, having set up and run ‘Future Sound of Dunedin’ 8 years ago.
The standard of prizes up for grabs in 2012 makes the competition exciting. Jansen Professional Audio and Lighting is the major sponsor for the third year in a row, and have provided an Allen & Heath Xone:DB2 mixer and Xone headphones for the winner. Also, making a return as a major prize is the chance to play out in front of a massive New Years Eve crowd at Northern Bass, alongside DJs such as the world #1 Drum and Bass DJ, Andy C. As well as Triton Hearing supplied Custom Ear Protection and a massive Monster Energy prize pack.
So with the final looming, after four events and 40 competing DJs, all eight finalists are practicing their moves and locking down their mixes, preparing to show that they have what it takes to be Rumble in the Jungle Champion of 2012.
