Judge David Harvey to speak at NZ Model Security Council
University of Auckland, New Zealand, 30 August 2012 –After two days of challenging debate and a string of fantastic guest speakers students have certainly settled into
delegate life and are looking forward to the days ahead.
Yesterday the NZ Model Security Council Conference had the honour of welcoming Lieutenant General Rhys Jones as the
keynote speaker for the 2012 Opening Ceremony. The central idea in his address was the importance of the human component
in every aspect of warfare; especially as military technology widens the gap between the battle field and those
participating in battle.
The schedule for the next two days will hopefully be just as successful. Highlights will include Judge David Harvey’s
keynote speech at 9am on Friday. Judge Harvey, New Zealand expert on internet law and previously sitting on the on the
Kim Dotcom trial, will speak on cyber warfare, cybercrime and cyber terrorism.
By Saturday delegates will have drafted five resolutions on their respective topics; cyberwarfare, missile shields, the
peaceful use of outer space, military robotics and electromagnetic weaponry.
