eBooks offer library members more access to good reading

ROTORUA 29.08.12: Rotorua District Library members now have another way to read their favourite books with the launch of its new eBook (electronic book) collection today. And they could be in to win their own eReader device.

An eBook is a book-length publication in digital form and readable on portable computers and other electronic devices such as eReaders and i-Pads.

Library manager Jane Gilbert says she is exited to offer the new technology to library members which enables them to download their reading for free.

“With 888 titles in the initial collection, and more to be added regularly, library members have more access to good reading. There’s also the added benefit of no overdue charges as eBooks will be issued to a member and simply expire after three weeks. It will then become available to another customer.”

Mrs Gilbert says the library also has simulated e-readers in the library for people to try out the new technology.

“The eBook initiative is an extension of the partnership we currently have with Whakatane and Western Bay libraries which has allowed us to introduce a collaborative e-audiobook collection for members of all three libraries,” says Mrs Gilbert.”

Local retailer Noel Leeming is supporting the launch of the new eBooks collection by offering a Kobo eReader prize draw for library members who put their name into the draw at the library.

Rotorua District Library’s new eBook collection is now available via www.rotorualibrary.govt.nz.
