WINNER! BEST PLAY
Tony Awards 2012
This wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play about race and real estate has won nearly every honour the theatre has to give, including the Tony Award for Best Play, Olivier Award, the Evening Standard Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
Circa Theatre has scored a tremendous coup in being able to bring Wellington the NZ premiere of this amazingly intelligent, stimulating and hilarious comedy. It wowed London at The Royal Court and West End, sold out the original New York season, and is currently playing an extension.
“OUTRAGEOUSLY FUNNY AND PROVOCATIVE. A FIRECRACKER OF A PLAY.”
– Daily Telegraph (London)
Taking its cue from African-American playwright, Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun”, CLYBOURNE PARK explodes in two outrageous acts set 50 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighbourhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification.
“VITAL, SHARP-WITTED AND FEROCIOUSLY SMART!”
—Ben Brantley, The New York Times
CLYBOURNE PARK is a spectacularly successful comedy and was Broadway’s hottest ticket. Don’t Miss It!!!
Starring: ANDREW FOSTER, NANCY BRUNNING, NIKKI MACDONNELL, DANIELLE MASON, GAVIN RUTHERFORD, JADE DANIELS, PAUL WAGGOTT
“A THEATRICAL TREASURE! INDISPUTABLY, UPROARIOUSLY FUNNY.”
—Entertainment Weekly
“FUNNY AS HELL! THE THEATER SHAKES WITH GALES OF LAUGHTER.” —NY Post
“DANGEROUS, PROVOCATIVE AND PULVERIZINGLY FUNNY!”
—Variety
