Freedman's Super Kiwi 3YOs
Singapore-based trainer Michael Freedman, and owners the Joy N Happiness Stable, look to have uncovered another star to
carry the 'super' moniker, with their Fastnet Rock three-year-old Super Good (NZ) showing the makings of a class performer in Singapore last night.
Super Good (ex Tonic, by Blues Traveller) was forced to do a tonne of work in the $50,000 Class 4 event, racing wide the
entire trip under jockey Barend Vorster, but got the better of his rivals in a driving finish to win by
three-quarters-of-a-length.
The win was Super Good's third from just six career starts for owners Andre Lim and Hong Ying Kwee of the Joy N
Happiness Stable who also race Singapore star Super Easy (NZ) and the unbeaten Super Junior (NZ), both by Darci Brahma.
The colt's trainer Michael Freedman sees a lot of potential in the latest youngster and is taking the son of Fastnet
Rock along step by step.
"It was a good, tough win," commented Freedman. "He had to cover a lot of ground and that's not easy when you are racing
older horses but he did very well."
"It's still very early in the season and the Triple Crown races don't start until March but he is a nice horse and is
developing nicely. He is a horse that could race over more ground so we will look at stepping him up to 1400 metres at
his next start."
Freedman knows what it takes to produce a top three-year-old having won this year's Singapore 3YO Triple Crown with
Super Easy (NZ) (Darci Brahma) for the Joy N Happiness Stable. Unbeaten in 11 Singapore starts, Super Easy was purchased
by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds from Tom & Shelly Murtagh's Esker Lodge at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $140,000.
In conjunction with Michael Wallace, Freedman purchased Super Good from Esker Lodge at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for
$170,000, at the same Sale as he secured Super Junior (NZ) for $100,000 from Pencarrow Stud.
Super Junior - now unbeaten in two starts - won his debut in July over 1000 metres and followed up with another bold
showing when winning the $65,000 Novice Stakes (1200m) in mid-August in a determined performance.
"I thought Super Junior did a really good job," said Freedman on his latest race win." He was niggled at to keep in
touch with them over 1200 metres and I really think 1400 - 1600 metres is going to be ideal for him."
"His pedigree suggests it as well, so to be winning over 1000 and 1200 metres at this stage of his career is a bit of a
bonus.
"We are aiming him at the $200,000 170th Jubilee Stakes (1400m) on 30 September and are looking at giving him another
run in the next couple of weeks."
