Hot Red party time for one lucky wine lover
A Wellington bride will be celebrating her hen’s night in “posh” style thanks to the generosity of her aunt winning a “hot red” party from Hawke’s Bay wineries.
Kristine McLachlan attended Hot Red Hawke’s Bay in Wellington and won the prize of a party, complete with goodies from the Bay and the company of two Hawke’s Bay winemakers. Generous aunt that she is, Kristine’s niece Gemma Browne will get that party to celebrate her hen’s night ahead of her February wedding.
The Hot Red events, hosted by Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers, were held in Auckland and Wellington over the winter, and in a departure from a prize that normally brings the winner to Hawke’s Bay for a weekend of wine indulgence, organisers arranged for the company of two party-loving winemakers, two dozen Hot Red Hawke’s Bay wine glasses and other treats, to create a party in the winner’s own home, wherever that may be.
Kristine attended the Hot Red Hawke’s Bay event for the first time in the company of other members of the Western Hills Wine Club. “It was a really horrible winter’s night but the warmth and enthusiasm of a room of passionate people with wonderful personalities was amazing. It was a great night, much bigger than I had imagined. There was so much wine to sample that we strategised first as a group to work out how to make the most of the opportunity,” says Kristine.
“Then to get the call that I had won was magic. I squealed and had to be hushed up,” says Kristine who works in an open plan office. “I never win anything!”
Gemma is marrying Apa Chapel in February and the young couple, who have recently had a baby and started a new business, are making it a BYO wedding. The generosity of their aunt now means it will be one with real Hot Red style.
A date for the hen’s party is yet to be set to fit in with the schedules of guest winemakers, Tim Turvey from Clearview Estate Winery and Miles Dineen from Crossroads Winery.
Hot Red Hawke’s Bay is a wine expo road show event that has been held for the past eight years, taking premium Hawke’s Bay wines to larger metropolitan centres in New Zealand and Australia to highlight the region’s prowess as New Zealand’s leading red wine producing region.
