Date Change for Wellington Performance
NZTRIO – OCTOBER TOUR 2012
Art3
New Zealand’s foremost piano trio NZTrio have made a change to their previously scheduled Wellington date – now performing at the City Gallery on October 31st.
Art3’s programme will allow local audiences to be transported by the sultry sounds of Spain with Joachim Turina’s Piano Trio No. 2, then treated to some high energy, cutting edge new works from Australia and New Zealand composers, before delving into the romantic, bohemian world of Antonin Dvořák.
Art3 sees the trio perform in visual art spaces, bringing their brand of intimate-yet-dynamic classical music to unexpected venues; from art galleries to small churches. “Hearing beautiful and evocative music played live by the country’s leading musicians in inspiring surroundings lifts the audience experience to another level” says NZTrio’s manager Vanessa Zigliani.
The NZTrio’s performance has also been confirmed to take place alongside the gallery’s newest exhibition, The Kermedecs, which commences in October. An exhibition of new work by nine artists from the South Pacific, inspired by a unique expedition along the Kermadec Trench undertaken as part a project of the Global Ocean Legacy programme of the Pew Environment Group, an organisation committed to raising awareness about one of the greatest, least known, natural ocean wilderness areas on the planet. The exhibition is a result of the Pew Foundation enlisting art and artists to address these ecological issues.
Artists include: Dame Robin White, Gregory O'Brien, Elizabeth Thomson, John Reynolds, John Pule, Jason O'Hara, Bruce Foster, Phil Dadson, and Fiona Hall. They work in arrange of media to capture their shared experiences at the Kermedecs and to address the issues encountered through the journey.
