Dominion Road Stories

Dominion Road is an iconic Auckland location; six kilometres of endless activity, home to one of the city's most ethnically diverse communities and a neighbourhood teeming with tall tales.

DOMINION ROAD STORIES is a unique theatrical experience for 2013 being developed by Auckland Theatre Company's community programme ATC Participate. As part of DOMINION ROAD STORIES, locations and sites around the Balmoral area of Dominion Road will be animated via a series of theatrical journeys and installations performed by a mix of volunteer and professional actors.

For DOMINION ROAD STORIES Auckland Theatre Company is looking to gather contributions from people that live and work around Dominion Road, or lived and worked around Dominion Road in the past. Memories, anecdotes, photos or other images, even objects....we are interested in what you would like to share.

We would like you to share your thoughts and experiences with us. We are interested in personal stories and we are looking for the good, the bad and the ugly! We may include some of these contributions in our theatre show.

You can contribute stories by email, online or even by talking to someone in person. Auckland Theatre Company is working with digital media students from AUT to record some of the stories and talking with Auckland Libraries and the Albert-Eden Local Board to help capture some of the stories through oral history interviews.

Sue Berman, President of the National Oral History Association of New Zealand says "oral history recording of peoples' recollections, memories and experiences - including stories of the ordinary and extraordinary - help us to understand social history not captured in written records. Oral history recording is a great way to honour the diversity of community stories."
