The Block NZ Homes Open for Inspection - TV3 Announces Dates for Public Open Homes
TV3 is throwing open the doors of the most talked-about block in the country, and inviting the public to visit the four houses made famous by hit TV show The Block NZ.
Two open homes will be held on Saturday 25 August and Saturday 1 September at 74-80 Anzac Street, Takapuna, (on Auckland’s North Shore), and organisers expect both fans of the show and potential buyers to attend.
Competing couples Libby and Ben, Rachel and Tyson, Ginny and Rhys, and Sarah and Richard will be on site as their houses are inspected, and producers of The Block NZ, Eyeworks Television, will be filming the open homes which feature in the final episodes of the series.
The four houses are marketed for sale by leading residential real estate agency Bayleys who will be selling them at auction on Thursday 6 September, an event which will be televised LIVE as part of the series finale.
MediaWorks TV Head of Factual Production Sue Woodfield says the makers of The Block NZ are thrilled with the way Kiwis have embraced the show and the couples.
“This is the viewers’ chance to join in the fun that they have been watching on TV, see the houses for themselves and meet the couples,” she says.
“We are looking forward to showing as many people as possible through the houses across the two open home days. And with camera crews filming on site, visitors may even end up on TV.”
The Block NZ became an instant success for TV3 when it premiered on Wednesday July 4 as the network’s top rating programme of 2012, in the target demographic of 25-54 year olds. Its audience has continued to build through the series with new viewers tuning in each week – the cumulative reach after 12 episodes is 1,093,000 25-54 year-olds.
The Block NZ is the most popular programme in its timeslot, and last week (week six of the series) hit a new high. Wednesday’s episode attracted a 31.9% share of the 25-54 year old television audience, and Thursday’s episode a 28.6% share. Those numbers translate to an average audience of 242,000 25-54 year-olds across the two episodes.
The Block is one of the biggest reality formats in the world, with a compelling blend of real estate dreams and high-stakes drama that has made it a global phenomenon. The New Zealand series is produced by Eyeworks Television for TV3. Foundation partners are Bunnings Warehouse, Kiwibank, Mazda and Wild Bean Cafe.
