Canon’s
annual EOS Photo5 competition kicks off for
2012
New Zealand and Australia’s renowned annual
creative photography competition is back for 2012 with five
new challenging briefs
Auckland, 8 August 2012: Back for 2012, Canon New Zealand today announces the return of New Zealand and Australia’s most creative photography competition, Canon EOS Photo5, inspiring photography enthusiasts of all walks of life to take their photography to the next level.
With five new briefs and a new line-up of New Zealand and Australian photography expert judges to survey the field, Canon EOS Photo5 2012 offers a fresh challenge for competition loyalists and first-time entrants alike.
“Canon EOS Photo5 has played a prominent role in revealing and showcasing the incredible talent and skill amongst New Zealand and Australian photographers. Over the last five years we’ve received an astounding number of entries with nearly 10,000 entries in last year’s competition alone.” said Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager – Imaging, Canon New Zealand. “This year’s competition will provide exciting new challenges for entrants to channel their inner creativity and take their photography to the next level.”
“As with previous years, Canon EOS Photo5 starts with our iconic little brown box. Inside there are five individual photographic briefs to challenge your creativity. We can’t wait to see the photos inspired by these briefs.”
How to enter:
• If
you uploaded five images to the EOS Photo5 2011 competition,
you are automatically eligible to request a box for the 2012
competition from 8 August. All you need to do is head to the
entry page on the EOS Photo5 website,
confirm your details and request a box.
•
For all other 2012 entrants, you will need to submit an
image to the Open Brief and a box will be sent to you. The
Open Brief will be live on the EOS Photo5 website from 8 August and you
can submit your photo from 23 August. Once the limited
number of boxes has run out, you are still able to enter the
Open Brief up until the end of the upload period, 24
October.
The five briefs contained in the EOS Photo5 box are made up of everyday objects and include instructions to incorporate specific creative photography techniques into a shot. The 2012 EOS Photo5 box is set to test even veteran entrants when it arrives on their doorstep. The briefs remain a secret until their release on 6 September 2012. Last year, the EOS Photo5 objects were foam, sequins, powder, ribbon and 'Through a Pet’s Eyes' was the Open Brief.
Finalists of the 2012 EOS Photo5 competition will be selected by a new judging panel comprising some of the biggest names in photography:
• Mike Langford - Honorary Fellow and President of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP), a Master and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), Canon EOS Master and 2012 Canon EYEcon Mentor, with more than 30 years experience as an International Professional Photographer.
• Daniel Boud - Chief Photographer for Time Out Sydney magazine and freelance photographer for organisations including the Sydney Opera House, EMI Music, Sydney Festival, Vivid Sydney and Laneway Festival.
• Tania Niwa - New Zealand born photographer who is the youngest Grand Master of Photography with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP).

Through the EOS Photo5 website and Canon New Zealand's Facebook page the judges valuable tips and tricks, from the basic to the more advanced, will be shared to spur photographic experimentation.
Ultimately the winners will be determined by the World of EOS community with voting commencing on 9 November 2012. Everyone who votes has the chance to win a Canon EOS 650D Single IS Kit.
Similar to past years, in addition to the winners for
each of the five briefs, there is also the ‘Portfolio

of images in all five briefs.
The winner of each brief
and the winner of the Portfolio Competition will win an
incredible 3-day creative photography workshop with Jackie
Ranken and Mike Langford at Uluru in the Northern Territory.
Accommodation and flights provided by Voyages and Tourism NT
