Wanted: Pirates and fairies
Christmas is fast approaching with all its wonder and excitement so it’s time to put on your eye patch, grab your wings and get ready to march through Auckland City alongside Santa.
Volunteers are being sought for the annual Farmers Santa Parade. In particular organisers are on the lookout for girls and boys aged nine to 11 to become pirates and fairies for the day.
Each year it takes thousands of volunteers to make the parade happen and organisers are always looking for active, energetic performers to help kick start the festive season and strut their stuff beside enchanting floats.
It’s not just fairies and pirates they’re after - there are many positions that need to be filled and organisers are seeking children and adults alike who love to dress up in costume.
Parade organiser Pam Glaser says Christmas is a truly magical time and the parade needs volunteers who are eager to share in the joy of the season.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic Aucklanders who can help put smiles on the faces of the thousands of spectators who come along on the day,” says Pam.
Behind-the-scene volunteers are also needed. They must be older than 18 years and willing to help as marshals, banner carriers, costume minders and the like.
This year, Santa makes his way through Auckland City on Sunday 25 November (rain date Sunday 2 December).
For more information on becoming a volunteer please call (09) 358 2395. Alternatively you can go to www.santaparade.co.nz, head to the volunteer page, fill out the application form online or download it and send it to the P.O. Box address provided. You will then be contacted to come in for a fitting.
