Pye returns to the podium at Queensland Raceway
For immediate release: 5th August, 2012.
Triple Eight Race Engineering's Scott Pye made a triumphant return to the podium at this weekends fourth round of the Dunlop Series at the Coates Hire Ipswich 300, finishing second overall for the weekend.
Pye, who started this morning's reverse grid race ninth, managed to manoeuvre his way through the carnage in the early stages of the 15 lap race and drove conservatively to finish an impressive fourth.
With overall meeting points determining the grid position for the final 22-lap race, the Monster Energy/ Gear Wrench pilot started third and held his position off the line.
Pye moved past Scott McLaughlin and into second on Lap 3 and drove a smooth and consistent race to maintain his position throughout the 70km race.
Finishing 16 points shy of round winner Chaz Mostert, Pye said it was great to be back on the podium.
“It was a tough day but very satisfying to come away with a podium finish," Pye said.“We started ninth for the reverse grid race and nearly got caught up in the carnage but fortunately I was able to work my way around it and finish fourth.
“We made some more tweaks to the Holden Commodore to improve it on yesterday and the car was fantastic today.
“It was unfortunate because of the reverse grid we started third for the final race so we didn’t quite have track position to win the race but still managed to finish P2 and second for the round.
“Overall, it was a fantastic result for the team, I can't wait for the next round at Bathurst,” Pye concluded.
Triple Eight Race Engineering collected 268 points to finish Round 4 second and Pye now sits third in the Dunlop Series Championship points standings on 892 points.
The Brisbane-based team now look to Round 5 of the Dunlop Series which will be held at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 4-7.
