NZtrio Display Their “Power” This October
NZTRIO – OCTOBER TOUR 2012
Art3 and Loft Series: Dumky
Having earned high-praise for their second Loft Series performance at Q Theatre (Lightbox, including the premiere of Karlo Margetic’s titular work), New Zealand’s foremost piano trio NZTrio will mark their return from a tour of Asia with a final tour of the country throughout October 2012.
Art3 sees the trio perform in visual art spaces, bringing their brand of intimate-yet-dynamic classical music to unexpected venues; from art galleries to small churches. “Hearing beautiful and evocative music played live by the country’s leading musicians in inspiring surroundings lifts the audience experience to another level” says NZTrio’s manager Vanessa Zigliani.
Art3’s programme will allow local audiences to be transported by the sultry sounds of Spain with Joachim Turina’s Piano Trio No. 2, then treated to some high energy, cutting edge new works from Australia and New Zealand composers, before delving into the romantic, bohemian world of Antonin Dvořák.
The trio will then return to Q - Auckland’s newest performing arts hub - to complete their Loft Series trilogy with Dumky. As champions of New Zealand music, each NZTrio Loft Series concert features a work by a local composer and this time Alex Taylor’s new commission for the trio, burlesque mécaniques, will premiere, along with a selection of performances taken from the Art3 series.
Those who attended the July premiere of Karlo Margetić’s Lightbox will know the excitement of witnessing the first public performance of a new composition and Taylor’s burlesque mécaniques looks set to do the same.
