RAGGAMUFFIN HEADS TO SAMOA
Raggamuffin is heading to the treasured islands of SAMOA this September to present a concert as part of the annual Teuila Festival. The concert features Spawnbreezie, Savage, Swiss plus local Samoan bands and will take place on Saturday 8th September on Apia’s waterfront.
Samoan born Spawnbreezie has been enjoying huge radio play in NZ for the last 12 months with hits such as Oh My Goodness, I’m In Love and Don’t Let Go. A recent collaboration with NZ artist Savage on his track Because of You has just been released and with both artists confirmed to appear at the first Raggamuffin Samoa, we expect to see some special performances on the night.
Joining these two musical heavyweights is new reggae kid on the block, Swiss. After a huge online / viral buzz from his self-released single and video 'Slow Wind', he was signed by Dawn Raid / FMG / Universal Records. Currently residing in Brisbane, the 20 year-old Wellington-born singer of Tongan descent has gone from strength to strength, building a healthy fan base in the US and Hawaii as well as closer to home. We are pleased to be able to present him, Savage and Spawnbreezie as part of the very first Raggamuffin Samoa. More local Samoan acts are to be added to the bill.
“We have wanted to take something to the islands for a long time so the opportunity to create a Samoan Raggamuffin event as part of the Teuila Festival is a great privilege” explains Raggamuffin Samoa director, Jackie Sanders. “Over the coming years we will build the concert and take more NZ and international acts, it would be fantastic to see it become a big as Raggamuffin is here in NZ!”
The Teuila Festival is one of Samoa’s most celebrated cultural events and throughout the week (2nd – 8th September) there will be many cultural activities on showcase such as the choir hymnal exhibition, a variety of traditional entertainment including fire knife dancing, traditional sports including the fautasi (long boat used as means of transportations across the islands of Samoa in the olden days) race, wood carving, tattooing, two nights of variety shows and the Miss Samoa pageant.
As well as the addition of the Raggamuffin concert, visitors can enjoy the new outrigger regatta, Riggamuffin. There will be 3 days of racing in Apia, finishing with a fun regatta and Beach Party from 9am – 3pm on Friday 7 September at a secret location. Purchasers of Raggamuffin Samoa packages will receive a ticket to attend this exclusive beach event, which includes the return transfers from Apia.
Sunshine, great food, great music…what more do you want!
