Equestrian - Olympic Build-Up

Equestrian - Olympic Build-Up

The big countdown is on for our riders now as they prepare for the London Olympics.

All of the hard work has been done and it is now all those little details being seen to.

Keep an eye on our website – http://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/Article.aspx?ID=6469 – for the latest news.

Our eventing team were this week welcomed into the Olympic Athletes’ Village with a spine-tingling haka but spent just a night there before heading back out to complete their three day camp. They will be back into the village on July 24 in readiness for the start of competition on July 28.

New Zealand’s sole dressage representative, Louisa Hill, heads into the village on July 28 in preparation for competition which starts on August 2.

Our Olympic equestrian team comprises both eventing and dressage representatives.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any information or contacts during the Olympics.

Here is a link to a very interesting piece from the FEI on the Olympic eventing competition.

In case you wonder why they don’t mention our two seven-time Olympians, the NZOC board Olympic criteria is that an athlete must be selected, accredited, and be in the Olympic Athletes' Village to have been counted as having attended a games whether they make the field of play or not. The IOC criteria says an Athlete must compete in the field of play at an Olympic Games to have that games counted.

And here is the link to the FEI’s Olympic dressage preview.
