JazzQuest Hits A High Note

19 July 2012 - For immediate release

JazzQuest Hits A High Note

CPIT’s biggest JazzQuest this weekend features 216 high school students from 15 schools across Canterbury. The event on 21 and 22 July at CPIT’s Jazz School gives students the opportunity to compete in a high quality band competition as either a Small Combo Band or a Jazz Big Band.

Students from 25 bands will compete for Most Outstanding Instruments, Best Overall Musician, Best Original Composition, Best Small Band and Best Big Band during the weekend.

JazzQuest encourages the great work being done by teachers of school music programmes and the students who participate in them as well as introducing young musicians to options for further studies in musical arts.

CPIT’s Jazz School is a well-respected provider of quality musical programmes and a well-known supporter of music in Christchurch.

For the first time, JazzQuest this year includes an Awards Concert on the Sunday after the competition where certificates and trophies will be presented and bands featuring Jazz School students, graduates and staff will play.
