Marina Erakovic teams up with Project K
New Zealand Tennis No. 1 Marina Erakovic is teaming up with Project K to grow a nation of great Kiwi Kids. Erakovic will be auctioning off a range of autographed tennis apparel from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the charitable trust, The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) founded by Graeme Dingle.
Project K is one of FYD’s school based programmes that helps 14-15 year olds students identified as lacking in self-confidence or with other factors holding back their development.
Erakovic, who recently won the Women’s Doubles Title at the Stanford WTA Classic, is excited to be involved with the programme. “I am very proud to be involved with Project K. Personally I am really glad that I can support these youngsters to better their potential and to have fun along the way”.
The Trade Me charity auction will kick off on 20 July and run until 27 July, just in time for the opening ceremony of the Olympics. There are over 10 items in the auction, including t-shirts, vests and caps for people to bid on; all items have a $1 reserve.
Marion Short, CEO of FYD says “The funds raised will ensure adult mentors are trained to support PK students with their 12 month transformational journey’.
“Research shows that Project K get results and helps young people discover possibility and develop valuable life skills, such as problem solving and decision making skills. It helps to create a motivated and engaged youth population. If we can work together to ensure that our youth are successful, then we as a country will be successful” says Marion.
