Emirates Team New Zealand to Launch New Catamaran
Emirates Team New Zealand will unveil its 72-foot AC72 America's Cup catamaran at a special gala event on Auckland's waterfront on Saturday, 21st July.
Award winning winery, Mud House, the Official Wine Supplier to Emirates Team New Zealand, will supply the jeroboam to christen the boat and serve a selection of its standout wine varietals to VIP guests and the team.
Mud House marketing manager Cathy Wansink says the winery is very excited to be part of such a special launch for the America's Cup team.
"The Emirates Team New Zealand America's Cup team has the full support of Mud House, and we are excited to be involved in this special event.
"We will also be supplying a range of Mud House wines during the event to offer a real taste of home. It's an opportunity for us to give back to Emirates Team New Zealand, after all the great work they've done putting our country on the yachting world map!"
Wansink says the Mud House wines have been served to Emirates Team New Zealand VIP guests across the world, from the team's hospitality suite in Valencia, to the Louis Vuitton regattas in Auckland and functions at the home base on Auckland's Viaduct.
Emirates Team New Zealand Managing Director Grant Dalton says nearly all of the parts for the AC72 have been specially designed and engineered. The class is so new very little is available 'off the shelf'.
"More than 1000 component parts were designed from scratch, including the latest in hydraulic systems and complex electronic systems that monitor and measure every vital sign onboard," says Dalton.
With the launch representing only the beginning of the project which began two years ago, the Emirates Team New Zealand design team will constantly be on the lookout for ways to improve the current technology - even while the yacht is on the water, he says.
