Under 23 four makes final
Under 23 four makes final
New Zealand's men's coxless four of George Howard, Tufe
Sele, Christopher Morrison and Shaun Kirkham became the
latest Kiwi crew to make the A finals at the Under 23 Rowing
World Championships in Trakai, Lithuania last night.
In a race long battle with the British, the crew came back from third at the first 500 metre marker to lead through the halfway and 1,500 metre points. With the Spanish and Czech Republic in hot pursuit - and only three to go to the main A final - the race was tense throughout and GB and the Kiwis traded punches throughout the last 300 metres, with the British eventually getting across the line first, but just two tenths of a second ahead of New Zealand.
Spain grabbed third for the final place in the A final. Those three will be joined by Germany, Austria and the USA from the other semi-final.
Single sculler Joseph Trappitt had a tougher time, finishing fifth in his quarter final and then fourth in the B semi-final. He will fight it out for a ranking place of between 19th to 25th in the D final tonight NZ time.
The men's coxless four, coxed four, the women's four, the women’s quad and the women's pair all go for gold this evening, with the light four in action in the semis.
