Global filmmaking project 24 Frames 24 Hours comes to Auckland this July
On the weekend of July 20 & 21, 2012 up to 20 local filmmakers and film enthusiasts will be taking part in 24 Frames 24 Hours, a global cinematic experiment in mobile phone filmmaking. Participants will make a short two minute mobile film about their favourite place in and around Auckland.
This is the first time the concept has come to New Zealand’s largest city after its debut in Wellington. The concept is spearheaded by Massey University’s Senior Lecturer in Digital Media, Dr Max Schleser, “24 Frames 24 Hours is a global film project portraying our cities through new viewpoints and angles. How do you explore Auckland through the lens of a mobile phone and show the world what this place means to you?”
24 Frames 24 Hours is an international collaborative mobile documentary capturing life in 24 hours in 24 different cities with the aim of evoking a sense of place. The feature documentary asks participants to contribute personal stories about their cities, which are filmed on mobile devices. The workshop is open to novice and experienced film makers who will be introduced to the pan-global concept of the event.
Previous locations
include ITP Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (New York
University) as part of the Mobile Art Conference, and most
recently Plumstead, England where participants in the
workshop will make a film about the impact of the Olympics
on Plumstead in a project called 24@Plumstead.
The
Auckland 24 Frames 24 Hours workshop is run through
AUT University’s Marker programme and will be held at the
City Campus. The final ‘mobile-mentaries’ will be
screened at the Interactive Entertainment conference and
will be available online for the public to
watch.
