Ellen is Leaving: a Short Film
Ellen is Leaving, a short film directed by Michelle Savill, written by Martha Hardy-Ward, produced by Desray Armstrong and executive produced by Gaylene Preston, has been selected by LA based New Zealand filmmaker Roger Donaldson (The World’s Fastest Indian, Sleeping Dogs, Smash Palace) as a finalist in the New Zealand's Best short film programme at the 2012 New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF).
Ellen is cool. She is recycling stuff before she heads overseas including her boyfriend. She decides to gift him to a new girlfriend, but can she really give him up?
Travel is the cancer of modern relationships. Ellen is leaving because she can. She needs to find her sad-sack of a boyfriend, Hamish, a nice leaving gift to try and help the mutual break-up feel a bit better. When Hamish jokingly suggests she get him a new girlfriend Ellen realises it's actually the perfect idea and sets out to find him the right girl. But when things start going a bit better than planned Ellen starts to lose her nerve. Can she really give him up?
Roger Donaldson said of the film: “I love how original it feels. The details of the travel pack put a real smile on my face.”
