Native Affairs Celebrates Maori Language Week with Special Te Reo Broadcast
“Our
language is a sacred reflection of the Maori spirit. The
spirit of Maori Television, is to give voice to our
language.”
NATIVE AFFAIRS, Maori Television’s
acclaimed current affairs show, will celebrate Maori
Language Week with a 100 per cent te reo Maori special
filmed at Te Hono Ki Hawaiki , the marae at Te Papa
Tongarewa on Monday July 23 at 8.30pm.
Maori language exponents will participate in an hour-long panel debate on various aspects of the language, including whether te reo Maori should be compulsory in schools and who is responsible for its revitalisation.
An invited audience will also be asking questions from the floor.
Our panellists are well-known throughout te ao Maori for their lifelong commitment to the language. Speakers include language revitalisation experts, broadcasters, iwi leaders and educators.
NATIVE AFFAIRS has a built a reputation for compelling current affairs debates.
The special Maori Language Week broadcast, entirely in te reo rangatira, demonstrates the significance of te reo Maori as a medium of expression, and its relevance to contemporary New Zealand society.
Last year NATIVE AFFAIRS was a finalist for Best Maori Language programme at the Aotearoa Film and Television Awards.
Tune in to Maori Television on Monday July 23 at 8.30pm for a 100 per cent te reo Maori broadcast with English subtitles on NATIVE AFFAIRS.
