Greg Murphy Racing Beaming With Confidence

Greg Murphy Racing Beaming With Confidence as Townsville Shines

Blue skies and warm weather have the Greg Murphy Racing team poised for a solid performance at the Townsville Street Circuit for round three of the 2012 Dunlop V8 Supercars Development Series.

Both Geoff Emery and Dale Wood had mixed results at the Reid Park facility in 2011, but after two strong practice sessions today, nearly matching each other for speed, the two GMR pilots are confident of a much more consistent round this year.

After a high speed shunt on the start line at Barbagallo back in May, Wood has swapped into a different car for this round and is quietly confident in the evolution of the #45 GB Galvanising/Wilson Technology Commodore over the course of the weekend.

“It’s been a big day for me, having also driven a main series car in preparation for the endurance races,” Wood said after a gruelling four sessions, in two separate cars. “I actually made pretty similar lap times on comparable tyres, but you do get that lap time differently. The cars are set up for speed in different aspects of the car so I had to adjust back and forth, but you can never get enough time on the track so it was great to be out there.”

“I actually feel really confident in the GMR car, we did quite well in both sessions, even without putting a set of green tyres on like most others did.”

Wood was 12th and 15th in the two sessions, and with only minor adjustments to be made overnight, both driver and car are more than ready for qualifying on Saturday morning.

The #48 R & J Batteries / Wurth / Tricor / NDD Commodore of Geoff Emery is undergoing some very positive changes overnight, after lunchtime suspension adjustments to an already impressive car paid off in the afternoon practice session. Emery was 11th and 13th fastest in the two sessions, finding an extra half-second in the second session.

“We had a productive second session; actually, both sessions were good for us,” he said. "After the first session we had a good indication of the changes we should make, so we tried it on in the second session and we saw a noticeable difference so we will be implementing a setup based on those changes. The track was slower in practice two, but the car was faster, so we are definitely going in the right direction. The car should be faster again by the time I head out for qualifying tomorrow morning, all I want to do is go faster!”

With no major works overnight and two content and confident drivers, the Greg Murphy Racing team is appropriately positive about the weekend ahead.

Qualifying for the Dunlop V8 Supercars Development Series is on track at the Reid Park street circuit from 9:30am local time tomorrow. Race one is at 12:10pm local time. Race one will be televised on 7Mate from 2:00pm AEST.
