Michael Reid at Murrurundi is very pleased to advise that the artist Anwen Keeling will be exhibiting a number of her recent equestrian paintings at the gallery in Murrurundi from 6 July until 2 September 2012.
Anwen Keeling is one of the leading equestrian painter in Australia today. Her work is anatomically exact and her finished paintings reference the style and professionalism of the great era of equestrian portraits by the best of the 18th and 19th century painters, such as George Stubbs and Alfred Munnings.
Keeling was a finalist in the Sulman Prize at AGNSW in 2010, and again recently in 2011. Her paintings have been selected for The Year in Art (2003) and Salon des Refuses (2004) at the SH Ervin Gallery, National Trust, Sydney. Keeling’s portrait of the Sydney radio personalities Merrick Watts and Tim Ross (‘Merrick and Rosso’) was exhibited in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (2004) at the State Library of New South Wales. In 2007 she was awarded the ABN AMRO Emerging Artist (Employee’s Choice) Award for her painting, Marnie. Keeling’s work is represented in the collections of the National Australia Bank and the Australian National University, Canberra as well as private collections in Australia, United States, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
This exhibition is undertaken in conjunction with our greatly beloved comrades, Liverpool Street Gallery in Sydney

He has been the recipient of Australia Council New Work Grants in 1995 and 2000. The gallery has secured the new domain
Australian Art Berlin. This acquisition fits in
with my portfolio of such names being Australian Art
Paris… New York & London. These are my “Moon moments”.
President John F. Kennedy announced America’s intention of
going to the Moon- before the scientist’s etc had worked
out how to get there. The nation set a goal, and then work
towards achieving that goal. The new website is
about 70% designed & constructed.
Late July was a particularly busy period for the gallery with what were three Pop Up exhibitions divided between the Danie Mellor exhibition at Manly Regional Art Gallery & Museum (still on); Danks Street (Gregor Kregar) and at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo, (Joseph McGlennon).
The gallery has commissioned a production company to undertake a series of videos, around gallery artist & their exhibitions- but with additional broader themes. So as to make the video’s more universal (not time & specific exhibition dependant). Expect the first clip off the rank in about two weeks.
Michael has been asked to be a

Taxidermy in Art with Prue Gibson, Sydney 8th August: Discover deathly imagery in art with author Prue Gibson as she explores why some Australian artists are obsessed with taxidermy animals. This is an old tradition dating back to colonial painters John Lewin and George Stubbs, who painted taxidermy animals. Now, the trend is strong among Australian artists Joseph McGlennon, Julia deVille, Joan Ross, Kate Rohde, Rod MCrae and Janet Laurence.
