Youthtown Launches Creatifs
Young Designer Awards Inspire Creative Talent
Youthtown is encouraging creative young Kiwis to put their fashion, design and artistic talents to the test as entrants
in the inaugural Youthtown Creatifs.
The Youthtown Creatifs are young designer awards open to all 13 to18 year olds who are passionate about art, fashion and
design. The Awards will provide a fantastic opportunity for aspiring young New Zealand designers to embrace their
creativity and showcase their talents.
The Youthtown Creatifs will offer two categories - wearable art and fashion design. Entrants can submit one entry into
the wearable art or fashion design category or both.
The wearable art category will require designers to create a hat inspired by the theme “everything old is new again”.
This section will challenge entrants to think outside the square and produce a hat that demonstrates artistic flair,
individuality and creativity.
The fashion design category will challenge young designers to produce a ready to wear garment. This section will appeal
to those keen to demonstrate their ability to be fashion forward, who embrace fashion trends and want to express their
individual style.
These young designer awards are a first for Youthtown and the organisation’s CEO, Keith Thorpe, says: “The whole team is
really excited about the launch of the Youthtown Creatifs and the opportunity to showcase the creative talents of our
young Kiwi designers.
“At Youthtown we’re all about inspiring young people to realise their potential through physical, social and creative
experiences,” he says. “Our Youthtown Creatifs will provide a perfect opportunity for aspiring young Kiwi designers to
express who they are, what they think and what influences them. More importantly it will provide a perfect spring board
for a career in fashion, art or design.”
The supreme winners will receive an array of great prizes, tailored to their category, including fashion experiences,
vouchers, a trip to Auckland to meet the judges and a sewing machine or iPad.

late September.
