NEW ZEALAND ART SHOW’S 2012 CHARITY NIGHT, THE ART OF GIVING, IS SUPPORTING 12 CHARITIES THIS YEAR
The New Zealand Art Show today announced that this year’s ‘Art of Giving’ evening, held on Saturday 4 August, will
benefit twelve charitable and not-for-profit organisations.
Carla Russell, the executive director of the New Zealand Art Show says, “We’re delighted to be able to increase the
number of charitable not-for-profit organisations associated with the show this year.”
This is the third year that the New Zealand Art Show has held a dedicated evening to raise funds for charitable and
not-for-profit organisations. Last year, the Neonatal Trust NZ and Wellington Children’s Hospital were the two
participating charities. This year, in addition to the Neonatal Trust NZ and the Wellington Children’s Hospital, the
participating charities are The Wellington Community Law Centre, the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research, Tautoko
Services, Skylight, Wellington Zoo, Te Omanga Hospice, Wellington SPCA, St Patrick’s College Silverstream’s Senior
School Touch Rugby Team, Maranui Surf Life Saving Club and the Wellington Football Club.
Each organisation benefits by selling their friends and supporters tickets to ‘The Art of Giving’ evening, providing
them with the opportunity to support their favourite charity and enjoy an evening of original New Zealand art, fine wine
and food, and great entertainment. Those attending also enjoy an exclusive viewing of the Show’s 3,000+ exhibits, which
are all for sale at affordable prices. Tickets to the evening cost $50, with $20 of every ticket sold going back to the
nominated charity.
“Last year’s event had guests up and dancing to the Beatgirls, so we had to have them back again and fortunately, they
agreed. So the girls will be there helping create a wonderful evening with their amazing choreography, outrageous
costumes and six decades of music from the Andrews Sisters through to Kylie Minogue.”
Tickets to the Art of Giving are limited to the first 1,500 sold and are available through the New Zealand Art Show’s
website http://artshow.co.nz/The+Show/Buy+Tickets. When buying tickets, you choose the participating charity you want to receive your donation from a drop-down menu.
Carla Russell adds, “As we are also a not-for-profit organisation, we know how difficult it might be to run a hospice or
to find the money to send a sports team to the national championship. Which is why we’re proud to organise this evening
on behalf of our participating charities. We’re confident that, with more charities participating, this year’s ‘Art of
Giving’ evening promises to be a huge success and tremendous fun, while at the same time benefiting twelve really good
causes.”
This year’s New Zealand Art Show runs from Thursday, August 2 to Sunday, August 5.

About the New Zealand Art Show
The New Zealand Art Show is an annual three-day art exhibition held each year in Wellington’s Events Centre on Queens
Wharf. This year’s show will run from Friday, 3 August to Sunday, 5 August 2012.
Established in 2004 as the New Zealand Affordable Art Show, the last eight years has seen the event grow in size,
reputation and quality. The exhibition showcases 3,000+ artworks by more than 400 artists; it is the largest art
exhibition in this country. Since its inception, it has sold around $6 million worth of art, returning over $5 million
back to artists – making the show a significant contributor to New Zealand’s arts community.
A gala evening is held on the eve of the show’s opening to the public (Thursday 2 August).
