American gamers donate US$25,000 to RSA
Wargaming America, host of popular online war game World of Tanks, this morning handed a cheque to the RSA for
US$25,000.
The money was raised in April this year as part of an Anzac Day charity drive through World of Tanks. To honour its Kiwi
and Australian players, a third of the proceeds from the sale of the game’s ‘gold packages’ during a three-day period
was donated.
Australian returned services organisation Legacy was the chosen charity, but in the Anzac spirit, it chose to share a
portion of its takings with the RSA in New Zealand.
“The RSA is honoured to accept this contribution from Wargaming America and its World of Tanks players. The innovation
and initiative in this charity drive coupled with the generosity shown by our Australian friends in sharing the donation
truly demonstrates the Anzac spirit is alive and well,” says RSA National President Don McIver.
Jeremy Monroe, General Manager of Wargaming America, says the Anzac Day charity drive was a huge success thanks to its
World of Tanks players.
“We couldn’t be more proud of them for helping to raise such an impressive donation and we’re extremely pleased to
present the money they raised to the RSA today.”
Nicholas Moran, US Army Captain and Militaria Relations for Wargaming America, presented the cheque on behalf of the
company at a short presentation this morning at Anzac House in Wellington.
Legacy will receive its share of the proceeds at a separate presentation in Australia tomorrow.
