Cox aims for trouble free Rally NZ

Rotorua pair Sloan and Tarryn Cox are looking to have their first trouble free round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, powered by Brother, when round four of the series gets underway at Brother Rally New Zealand, which also doubles as round seven of the World Rally Championship.

Throughout the opening three rounds of the championship, the Cox pair have set a pace that has seen them fighting for the top spots, however a series of mechanical problems and punctures have cost dearly, leaving 20-year old Sloan sitting sixth in the NZRC standings, a position that does not reflect the outright pace the team have extracted from the Taslo Engineering backed Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10.

Since the last round of the NZRC in Otago, the Cox Motorsport team have concentrated largely on rebuilding mechanical components in the car to improve reliability for what is the longest event of the national championship. Cox will also pace himself across the three days and almost 450km of special stages.

“I’m really looking forward to Rally NZ, there are some really cool roads and to compete in the same rally as the WRC guys is awesome,” says Sloan. “Hopefully we will have a clean run and that should give us a result reflective of our pace.”

Brother Rally New Zealand gets underway early on Friday 22 June with eight special stages totaling more than 200km before returning to the rally base in Auckland’s viaduct harbour. Day two sees teams head to roads around Whangarei with another 180km spread across seven stages, while day three sees a far shorter 61 kilometres of special stages around the Puhoi area plus two runs through the Auckland Domain before the finish at the Silo Park on Sunday afternoon.
