Australian boys choir to perform free Rotorua concert
ROTORUA 14.06.12: Events & Venues Rotorua is hosting a free concert next month featuring National Boys Choir of Australia during its tour of the north island.
The choir is performing ‘A Gift of Music’ for the Rotorua community at Civic Theatre on Thursday 5 July at 7.30pm. Performances will also take place in Auckland, Napier, and Wellington.
National Boys Choir of Australia has been involved in many major events such as the Sydney Olympics, Melbourne Commonwealth Games, The Three Tenors Tour, the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Bledisloe Cup Rugby, and André Rieu’s Australian tour. Choristers of the national choir have also represented both Qantas and their country in the acclaimed ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ advertising campaigns.
The Rotorua show will feature a variety of music from different eras as well as new songs recently composed for the choir.
Events & Venues general manager Peter McLeod says the Melbourne-based choir has established itself as one of Australia’s finest treble choirs with a performance schedule that includes major concerts, interstate and overseas tours, and regular television appearances.
“It’s fantastic that an international-standard choir is prepared to give a free community concert With only four such concerts on their New Zealand visit we’re extremely lucky.”
Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters says local residents shouldn’t miss this opportunity to participate in what promises to be a fun, audience-engaging show.
"We're pleased that with the major upgrade of our Civic Theatre we've been able to attract the choir to Rotorua. I hope Rotorua residents will get right behind the National Boys Choir of Australia and show our support for our friends from across the Tasman.”
While it is a free concert tickets are required so that capacity and wheelchair numbers can be managed. Tickets will be available from the Convention Centre’s Ticketmaster outlet tomorrow [15 June].
