VSA celebrates 50 years of international volunteering

VSA (Volunteer Service Abroad) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
To mark this achievement it has organised a travelling photo exhibition, Windows to another world: Images from 50 years of volunteering abroad, featuring photos taken by VSA volunteers and staff members over the past 50 years.
The photos show life in many of the countries where VSA has worked, from Nepal and Thailand to Vanuatu and Papua New
Guinea.
The exhibition provides a unique insight into what it is like to be a VSA volunteer in a developing country – the sights
and experiences you can have when you become part of a community for up to two years.
Windows to another world opens in Wellington on 6 June, and will then travel to Auckland, Nelson and Dunedin.
Over the past 50 years, VSA has sent more than 3,500 Kiwi volunteers to work with communities striving for change
throughout the Pacific, Asia and Africa. VSA is currently focusing its work in the wider Pacific – Melanesia, Polynesia
and Timor-Leste.
VSA works with its partner organisations to make sure that all assignments are locally identified, locally relevant, and
locally delivered.
