Samoa 50th Independence Anniversary; Auckland Ceremony.
A unique gathering is about to take place to remember Samoa’s 50th Anniversary of Independence. Samoa 2012 Jubilee year will see a number of important community events to mark this special milestone.
On Sunday 3rd June, 5pm a Thanksgiving service will be held at St Stephen’s Church in Ponsonby, 65 Jervois Rd. The service will be led by our Samoan church leaders and community elders from across the wider Auckland region.
Church choirs and community performances will add a blend of traditional music and vibrancy, which is truly Pasifika. The service will also pay tribute to some of our Samoan pioneers in New Zealand of the past and present.
On the most important year for the Samoan community in Auckland, we reflect once more on our journey. Ponsonby is the original home of Pasifika and a fitting place to remember where the journey started for us in New Zealand, all those years ago.
We look to the future with anticipation, with faith and confidence. A special thank you to all our groups and the wider community for their support.
This event has been organised by the Samoa2012 Steering Group.
Let’s celebrate together Samoa 2012 Jubilee year!
