Pukeiti Arbor Day fun for the family

Arbor Day will be marked with a free family event at Pukeiti on Sunday (3 June).

The fun day is aimed at children, with games and activities celebrating the wonder of trees. There will also be new plantings in Pukeiti’s Explorer Club Garden, a special plot established by children in previous years.

Sunday’s event will run from 10.30am to 2pm, rain or shine. Indoor areas are available if the activities need to be moved under cover. Bring food and drink, gumboots and clothing suitable for outdoor games and garden work.

Arbor Day is observed around 6 June annually. It was first held in Nebraska in 1872, and New Zealand’s first Arbor Day was in Greytown in 1890.

Explorer Club fun days at Pukeiti and are part of a year-round programme of free public events at Pukeiti and at Tupare and Hollard Gardens, two other heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. All three properties are open daily and entry is free.

Tupare High Tea another option

The first of the winter season High Teas will be held at Tupare in New Plymouth on Sunday (3 June).

Run on the first Sunday of the month from June to October, the High Teas are a fundraiser for Mangorei School, and pre-booking is essential. See www.tupare.info for information.
